Amazon Q Developer is AWS's AI coding assistant — code completion, chat, and agentic capabilities woven deeply into the AWS ecosystem, from your IDE to the AWS console itself.

It offers the modern assistant toolkit: inline completions, chat that explains and generates code, and agents that implement features, write tests, generate documentation and perform automated code reviews. Its differentiation is AWS-native intelligence: ask how to configure services, generate infrastructure-as-code, troubleshoot resources from within the console, and — uniquely — run large-scale code transformations, like upgrading Java versions across an entire codebase, a task teams famously measure in "developer-years saved."

The free tier is generous for individuals; the Pro tier adds enterprise controls, higher agent limits and IP indemnity.

Strengths: unmatched AWS integration (console help, service configuration, IaC), the transformation agent for legacy upgrades, security scanning, and a strong free tier.
